Antalya, the second touristic centrum of Turkey , lies at the feet of the Mount Taurus (Toros) and straight on the Mediterranean. The city is blessed with a very nice climate except during the heats of July and August.
According to tradition, in the 2nd century BC the Pergamon king Attalos II ordered his men to find "heaven on earth". After an extensive search, they discovered the region of Antalya . Attalos rebuilt the city, giving it the name "Attaleia" which later mutated in Turkish as Adalia and then Antalya . Attaleia was also the name of a festival at Delphiand Attalis was the name of an ancient Greek tribe at Athens .
Though its modern appearance when you arrive, Antalya bids nice place to wander such as its old quarter (Kaleici) within the Roman city walls, the archaeological museum and the archeological sites in the surroundings such as Termessos, Side, Perge, Aspendos, Olympos, Phaselis or one of the many waterfalls in the area : Kursunlu, Manavgat, Duden…
